Business Analysis
We find that some of the biggest mistakes small business owners make are due to the fact that they are too close to the business to recognize problem areas or issues within the business. That’s why it helps to have an experienced and objective eye.
We do an in-depth Business Analysis to get an eagle’s eye view of the overall function of the business, including financial, marketing, operations, all aspects of sales and merchandising, and organizational structure. Looking at all aspects allows us to give the owner or manager a different perspective that may be otherwise overlooked or missed in the minutia of everyday business. We do interviews, take copious notes on what we see and don’t see, ask a lot of questions, and observe your business from the beginning of your day to the end. The analysis can take a week or more at times, as we strive to be as thorough as possible so that we can tackle the good and the bad in your business.
Why This Is A Critical Step
Without this view of your business, no one can see all of the plates that you as an owner are spinning to keep your business on track and growing. It’s all you can do to keep everything moving in the correct direction and, if a plate breaks, we all know who is going to be cleaning that up! It’s our goal to get you out of the daily plate spinning business so that you can start to get a much clearer picture of where you currently are, where you want to go in the future, and what steps you need to take in order to get there.
Creating A Map
In the craft of mapmaking or cartography, the oldest maps are not actually of the earth, but of the heavens. This is because they had a perspective of the heavens that they didn’t have on earth. Our best and most detailed maps didn’t come until we were able to look down on the earth from above to get the best perspective.
In the same way, we derive great detail from the Business Analysis and, several weeks after our initial visit, we send a detailed report about what we have observed and what steps we suggest you take to get your business to the place you’ve envisioned.
During this time, we often ask additional questions to obtain a full understanding of the challenges you face as a manager and owner. This is one of several differences we have found in our methodology versus most other business coaching and consulting companies. We want to fully understand and know where you want to go with your business and help you get there by creating a map that you can follow long after the Business Analysis.
Quite simply, an on-site analysis by CVC is not a boilerplate document — it is real-world information, explained in a way that the customer can understand and use as a map to strategically move to the level that the business owner or manager has set as the goal.
What Are Your Goals?
Believe it or not, knowing your goals can also be difficult. We meet with many a business owner who says things like, “I want to be rich”, “I want to build a business to leave to my kids”, or “I’m so busy just working day to day that I have never even thought about it”. The issue is, whether you have thought about your goals or not, you have to start thinking about what you want and how you will get from point A to point B. And, if you want to leave a business to your kids, you had better make sure that they want your business! Statistics show that most second-generation businesses fail, so setting your business up to move to the second generation needs to be well thought out and planned. This part of the process is often phrased as connecting the dots — you may already know what you need to do, but are you doing it?
